JARAN

NEYESTAN

The Ney (reed-flute) is found throughout the Arab, Turkish and Persian world. In all its simplicity it is one of the most perfect of all wind instruments.
To the great persian mystical poet Mevlana Djellaledin Rumi (1207-1273), the Ney is a symbol of the ecstatic: devoid of all real substance, its voice is evoked by divine breath.

Beschno az Ney

Listen to the story of separation told by a reed.
Since I've been cut from the reedbed,
I've brought men and women to lament.
I want a heart torn by exile,
That I might tell of the pain of yearning. Anyone apart from his origins longs to go back one day...

RUMI

Mohammad Eghbal allows himself individualistic transformation and interpretation of Iranian music without consensus on its basis and structures, nvertheless very freely performed.
